After the successful launch of the much awaited TVS Akula concept as Apache RR310, here’s another surprise from the TVS Motor Company – Zeppelin; which is a concept cruiser. The Zeppelin is the first ever cruiser unveiled by TVS Motor Company. It may appear that TVS Motor Company took a very long time to unveil even a concept model of a cruiser. But, the company has definitely unveiled a bike which has managed to impress the bikers.
The Zeppelin becomes a special bike for lot of reasons other than being the first cruiser from TVS. To begin with the interesting facts, the bike will be powered by a first-time-ever 220 cc single cylinder engine developed by TVS which will be capable of delivering 20.3 PS power @ 8,500 rpm and 18.5 Nm of maximum torque @ 7,000 rpm, coupled with 5-speed gearbox. The mind-blowing fact about Zeppelin is that it will feature a a patented Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) system. This system is basically an e-boost tech which will enhance the performance using the 1,200 W regenerative assist motor. The assist motor draws power from 48 V Li-ion battery. The system as a whole can be imagined as a scaled down mild-hybrid system. The third interesting thing about this bike is that it will use a belt drive for power transmission instead of the popular chain drives found on most motorcycles. The fourth interesting thing is that the bike’s features which include an HD action camera mounted on the headlamp nacelle (works like a GoPro), online connectivity and bio-electric key.
The bike has a retro styled, raw and muscular look gives it a aggressive power cruiser stance. The bike has a low seat height, feet-forward stance and laid back sitting posture. As can be guessed from the pic, the bike gets a beefy front tyre, spoked wheels, 41 mm USD fork with golden finish and a monoshock suspension in the rear. The other important features include a big fuel tank in mud brown colour scheme, bar-end mirrors, brushed chrome body work, LED headlamps, digi-analogue instrument cluster and flat handlebar.
The concept model is loaded with features but it is known that the production models often lack most of the features in order to keep prices in control. The Zeppelin appears to be a very promising motorcycle which will definitely give a head on challenge to the cruisers in the market like Bajaj Avenger, Bajaj Dominar, Royal Enfields Classic/Thunderbird/Bullet and others. However, the Zeppelin is still in initial development stages and the launch of production vehicle can be expected by the end of 2019 or early 2020.
