India Yamaha Motor has launched Yamaha’s flagship supersport motorcycle – YZF-R1 in India at INR 20,73,000 (ex-showroom – Delhi). The 2018 Yamaha YZF-R1 was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017, Tokyo Big Sight. With this launch, Yamaha expects to increase its market share in the superbike segment in India.
The new YZF-R1 gets two important alterations – Updated QSS and Redefined Wheel Lift Control (LIF). The updated Quick Shift System (QSS) features improved downshifting capability where the ECU matches engine speed on each downshift for instantaneous gear shifts. It also allows full-throttle clutchless upshifting. The updated LIF comes with more progressive mapping which enhances forward drive and offers smoother intervention. Some of the significant features are Advanced aluminum Deltabox® frame, advanced electronics package, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), banking-sensitive traction control, unified ABS, slide control, launch control and much more. The bike will be offered in 2 color schemes: Tech Black and Yamaha Blue.
The Dynamic YZR-M1 styling with improved aerodynamics is designed to simulate the MotoGP experience for the rider. There are no major changes in overall design except the colour scheme. The bike is powered by MotoGP derived light weight compact cross-plane crankshaft, inline-four-cylinder, 998 cc engine which features titanium fracture-split connecting rods. The bike inherits its chassis, suspension and rest of its features from the previous its version. The bike will continue to compete against its old rivals like Ninja ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Honda CBR1000RR and BMW S1000RR. The bike will be imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
